Mombasa Beach Hotel is one of the most popular hotels for both local and international visitors, with a great assortment of rooms all facing the beautiful Indian Ocean. The hotel is located on the North Coast of Mombasa, about 18 kilometers from Moi Airport.
It is a great place to stay, with its clean rooms, good food and a variety of entertainment every night.
Accommodation
I had the privilege of staying at this hotel for 5 days, and for a beach buff like myself, it was a pleasant stay. I got to share a rather unique room with my parents: it had one main door, but inside were two separate rooms, each with its own key, so we all got to enjoy our privacy.
Do ask for such a room if staying with friends, other couples or teenage kids, or for any other individual who would enjoy such an arrangement.
Generally, the hotel has 152 spacious rooms, with wireless internet access in each one. The air conditioning is excellent, and you have the choice of leaving it on throughout the night or keeping the sliding doors slightly open for the breeze to fill the room. Rest assured that the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep every night, and the sunrise is spectacular.
Dining
At the Mombasa Beach hotel, all the meals are buffet-style, with excellent quality food and friendly chefs ready to serve you. I especially enjoyed breakfasts at the hotel, which were quite basic- fruit juice, tea or coffee, eggs, bacon, cereal, and the usual foods- but the presentation was always wonderful: your eggs cooked as you wait, the choice of hot or cold milk with your cereal, freshly squeezed fruit juice, and delicious French toast.
Lunches were also quite standard, but dinner always was surprising because of the theme nights at the hotel. The hotel serves mainly African dishes, from nyama choma to deep-fried fish and spiced rice (pilau), so every evening meal is something to look forward to.
Activities
Since my stay was during the Christmas/New Year’s season, there was always something happening at the hotel. Wind surfing classes and gear were available, boat rides to the coral reef on low tides, beach walks whenever you wish.
Children were also very well taken care of, with the members of staff called animators always supervising the swimming, offering games and face painting, and evening activities after dinner.
You can also join the fitness club for workouts and a game of beach volleyball every morning, get a gorgeous henna tattoo from the artisans at the beach, or simply lounge on the pool side or on the beach to catch a tan.
You could also arrange for a trip to Mombasa town to shop or enjoy the local cuisine, but do ensure to go with a guide for peace of mind.
A Few Tips
- Mombasa Beach hotel is best for travelers who intend to explore the rest of Mombasa or spend their days relaxing on the beach, rather than for those looking for a luxury experience.
- The rooms at the hotel are quite basic, and so is the range of activities, so get out and see what the North Coast has to offer during your stay.
- Also be prepared to see a lot of people in formal dress- or as formal as it gets at the beach. This is because the hotel hosts numerous conferences and workshops for government and non-government organizations. These will not interfere with your activities, though.
All in all, Mombasa Beach Hotel is conveniently located, has good food, friendly staff, and the beach is only a few steps away. Use the form to contact us for all your holiday bookings to Mombasa and get a competitive quote today
